2 Amys Pizza

What: 2 Amys Pizza
Where: 3715 Macomb Street NW, Washington, DC
When: August 14, 2014

When you tell people you are in a Pizza Club and eating your way across DC, people soon ask if you have had 2 Amys. It took us a few months but we finally made it in August. 2 Amys is tucked a little further away from our normal routes, but is well worth the trip.

2 Amys serves Pizze D.O.C., which means according to specifications set out by the Italian government for Neopolitan pizza. You can really taste the quality of ingredients in the Margherita pizza. The mozzarella di buffalo just sings in your mouth. The sauce is full of flavor and the crust holds it all together. All finished together in the brick oven.

My advice is to order the Margherita Extra. You may see other pizzas with more toppings, meat toppings, don't get distracted. The other pizzas are still good, but the Margherita Extra is so delicious you will be disappointed with the other choices. Catherine summed up my feelings with Classic. Satisfying. What you want out of a pizza!

We had two Margherita Extra's, the specialty pizza of the night, which was topped with squash flower, and the Abruzzese. The Abruzzese was topped with tiny meatballs.

Crust comments:

Too busy eating Catherine simply said "Love it!!" I liked the crust too. They have the brick oven, so there were a few spots of charring, but not so much to ruin the flavor.

Sauce:

Catherine said Two Amy's has my favorite kind of sauce...not chunky and flavorful. I agree that the sauce is good. I like when there is enough flavor that it stands on its own without toppings.

Toppings:

Catherine thought the meatballs were just ok. I thought the squash flower was interesting, but as stated above, the mozzarella is just amazing.
